AWUS01 KWNH 050945 FFGMPD WVZ000-OHZ000-KYZ000-INZ000-051544- Mesoscale Precipitation Discussion 0032 NWS Weather Prediction Center College Park MD 445 AM EST Thu Mar 05 2026 Areas affected...southeastern Indiana, southern Ohio, northern West Virginia Concerning...Heavy rainfall...Flash flooding possible Valid 050944Z - 051544Z Summary...Sensitive ground conditions from prior rainfall could result in excessive runoff/flash flooding through 15Z/10a eastern today. Discussion...Mixed modes of convection (including cells/clusters and stratiform precipitation) continue to migrate fairly quickly eastward across the discussion area. Meanwhile, axes of 2-4 inches of rainfall have occurred over the past 12 hours across southeastern Indiana (near Columbus) through southern Ohio (near Hamilton/just north of Cincinnati) and near/south of Columbus. FFGs are near zero in portions of these areas, and latest MRMS Flash data/LSRs suggest local impacts from high water may still be ongoing in at least a few spots. Given the fact that FFGs are so low and a shield of stratiform rainfall exists upstream over southern Illinois/Indiana, expectation is that additional moderate rainfall (0.2-0.4 inch/hr rates) will overspread the region from west to east over the next 2-6 hours. The rain will hinder runoff/subsidence of any ongoing flooding and may potentially cause additional instances of excessive runoff. These conditions may persist through 15Z/10a eastern this morning.
